I adore flowers and how they seem to magically appear from
the earth. But I also love the intricate root systems they form below the earth, hiding from our line of vision. I’ve explored working with roots in the past, but I’d love to dive deeper for
my Passion Pitch!

[My work] is inspired by botanical illustrations, botany collections and the botanical collage work of Mary Delany. Also cabinets of curiosity, which I have loved since I was a child with their labels and eclectic displays. The idea is to bring these vintage collections to life and I would like to expand this to shells, feathers, insects…
I’m really concentrating on watercolour technique at the moment and combining my passion for nature, detail and whimsy.

For this series of illustrations I was inspired by the line "I heard the small kingdoms breathing around me" from Mary Oliver's poem 'sleeping in the forest'. Each piece portrays the subtle whispers of nature in a miniature magical world of flora and fauna in their small realms.

I have a passion for folklore, myth and legend as well as an interest in historical art styles, so a series of book covers felt like the perfect project! I was inspired by ancient Greek pottery and frescos, but I wanted to put my own spin on it with the use of colour and linework. I wanted the different branches of mythology in this project to interweave with each other, but also retain their own identity.

“Garden party”
I want to create something festive and cheerful that might work for a Birthday collection. Maybe as cards, a wrapping paper, napkins or some festive tableware for a children’s party.

“It is my dream to design a book cover, so for my passion pitch,
I have re-imagined the covers of three classic titles. I chose three works that are inspired by nature: The Secret Garden, Watership Down and The Language of Flowers. I wanted to create designs that have a very crafted feel, so I have produced all of them from hand-carved linocuts. I have really enjoyed creating these designs as the inspiration comes from the narratives in the stories, which is a new way of working for me.”

“I've always loved Aesop’s Fables and learned so much from these stories growing up. I think it would be so fun to create spot illustrations and the cover for a collection of these fables. Going further, it would be a really interesting project to create an Aesop’s Fables tarot deck!”

“My Passion Pitch Project for OOB ‘24 falls in line with the launch of my new website and rebrand. My new logo features a pigeon – I have been harbouring a great love for pigeons over the past few years, I believe them to be widely misunderstood and underappreciated!! I have been drawing them a lot and am mesmerised by their beautiful colourings and variations.
”The pigeon in my new logo is also holding a rose which is a nod to a recent discovery about my past – very little was known about a sensitive area of my heritage due to fears within my family during the war. We respected our living relatives desire for us to not question them and look at their past, however now that they themselves are passed we have done a lot of research and found our Jewish family name was changed in the 1940's from ‘Rosenbaum’ which means Rose tree! I feel such a huge affinity with the name and my newly discovered heritage.”

My passion pitch is Zodiac Dream.
It represents the beauty and harmony of celestial bodies and the way they are reflected in the elements of nature, particularly flowers.
I wanted to explore the idea of an infinite Universe in perfect balance, both in the big stars and in the small, delicate flowers.
I used some references from medieval drawings and tapestries, as well as zodiac maps.

“My Passion Pitch is “Cat Party” inspired by our cat Jelly and all the different cats in our neighbourhood, who circle round to visit each other every day!!
“I foremost created it with a puzzle in mind but think it would work well as gift wrap or a stationary range with some individual cats on cards or note books as spot illustrations, or even some homewares for the cat lovers amongst us!!
“Life is better with a cat or two!”
