Welcome to our new mini-series of blog posts in which we delve into the day-to-day lives of our wonderful artists!

We hope you will gain an insight into what a typical day is like – if there is such a thing – for our professional artists, and be inspired by their stories. Firstly, Tracey English, from her home studio in South West London…

How do you kickstart your day?

Straight after my breakfast I go for a 45 minute walk with our dog Daisy, this is normally when I plan for my day a head, once home I make a coffee and I’m ready to get started.”

Describe your working environment – what sights, sounds & smells are there?

My studio is the tiny box room at the front of our house looking out onto the street, I can see the comings and goings of the neighbours, there is not a lot of space and it is full to the brim with my paints, papers, books and bits and bobs! My computer is downstairs in the corner of our kitchen and it is much quieter and calmer and I can look through into the garden.”

What are the biggest challenges you face on a day to day basis?

Trying to find enough time to fit in work and family life, now with Covid-19, everyone is home all of the time and so there are many more distractions and demands on my time.”

What radio station/podcast/audiobooks do you listen to while you work?

I listen to BBC Radio London, it has a good mix of music, chat and news. I love the Barking hour on a Thursday afternoon with Jo Good its all about dogs in the city.”

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? What are your hobbies?

I love pottering in our tiny city gardening, and going for long walks with our dog at the weekends and spending time with my family.”
