PATTERN OBSESSIVES

I love pattern, that much is clear. I’m asking myself why? I have a strong colour sense which is closely bound up with pattern but that’s not really enough...or is it? What is it about pattern? I don’t think in three dimensions; perhaps that is why. I feel like I understand accomplished patterns in a way I will never understand an accomplished drawing or sculpture, however much I admire it.

Patterns are joyful; they are crafted, decorative, and considered. What is it about patterns? Why do we adore them so?
